1080p 144hz 27" Monitor

I've been looking for 1080p 144hz 27" monitors. I currently have a 26" Acer AL2616 at 1680 x 1050 so honestly a 27" 1080p (especially 144hz) will look amazing to me. (Yes, I am aware my current monitor is 10 years old and pretty crappy now).

I was thinking for going for a BenQ XL2720Z monitor. It has great reviews. However- is G-Sync necessary? The XL2720Z doesn't have G-Sync so I wasn't really sure if I would need it. Is it worth dishing out a lot more money for 1440p 144hz G-Sync or should I stick with the XL2720Z?

G-Sync isn't really worth it unless your graphics card is something lower than 970 level of power, at which point the money for G-Sync is better invested into a better graphics card.
