Okay,
So it's soon my birthday and I've worked out I'll be getting about £250 (yes I know I'm terrible for doing that), and I'm wanting to upgrade my pc as much as possible. I'm not saving money or anything, so please don't tell me to just wait til I have enough for some amazing components.

My PC specs (yeah it sucks)
- AMD A8-7600 APU
- AMD HD 7850 GPU
- Corsair Vengeance 8gb DDR3
- Gigabyte GA-f2a55m-HD2 Motherboard
- And a 1TB Sata III HDD

Originally I was going to go with an i5-6500, with an MSI H110M GAMING Mobo, and get a stick of 8gb ddr4 Ram to go with it.
I'll soon be getting a part time job so I can upgrade the gpu later.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions that can help get the most gaming performance from my pc while staying within, if not slightly over the budget.

Any replies are greatly appreciated :)

If you can afford those upgrades in your budget, they sound like a good way to go. The CPU is definitely the limiting factor in this machine, and the GPU should still last a bit longer. Someone else might be able to find slightly better priced parts for you, but you do have the correct idea.

I would also consider as a possibility an SSD. I wouldn't get it over the CPU upgrade, but it's another upgrade that will significantly change how responsive the computer feels.

Thanks!
Do you think that anyone would buy my old parts to go toward an SSD?

It's worth trying. The A8-7600 should make a pretty decent media center HTPC, so you could try to get around £100 or so for the motherboard, CPU, and RAM. That should put you well on your way to being able to get a decent SSD.

I just realised, I have a spare ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 lying around for some reason, still in packaging, would that be enough?

It's going to be harder to sell a motherboard alone, but if you can it will definitely help. PCPartPicker says there are plenty of good SSD's for less than £80, so there should definitely be something to pick from.
