Guys I have an old NIB hyper212+ laying around (not EVO) and was wondering if it is adequate for my FX8320(125w)....thinking of OC to no more than 4.0Ghz

Max TDP of a 212+ is 180W, so it may limit the OCing ability, but it'll work.

It's compatible with the AM3/3+ socket, so that aspect is fine.

As an FYI, if you only want 4.0GHz..... you don't need to OC. The FX-8320 turbo's to 4.0GHz (from a base 3.5GHz). You wouldn't accomplish anything by OCing it to run at 4.0GHz all the time - other than slightly increase your electricity bill.

I think the largest benefit of the 212 on the FX platform was noise reduction. That being said my temps dropped drastically over stock (5 to 10 C depending on core load), still hit thermal throttling in some games however so I'd tend to agree.

ok guys I got the hyper212+ on there today and I am able to get 4.3Ghz with 200 bus X 21.5 with dram voltage of 1.623 and cpu 1.47345v.

I can run a batch of 10 IntelBurnTests and do not get over 54 degrees C

I have a MSI 970A-G46 and the stupid thing kept doing its own thing even when I put it manual mode grrr .....anyway we will see how it goes.

BTW I get a cinebench score of 668
