What is better for my current STRIX 970 : 1440p or 1080p ?

Hello guys, I'm kinda confused right now. I'll soon buy a new screen for my PC and I'm looking towards 144Hz but I'm hesitating between 1440p and 1080p.. I'm scared that the 1440p is a bit too much for my 970, but next July I'll get myself a GTX 1080 so I'm not sure if I should stick with 1080p 144Hz (BenQ XL2430T for example) for performance or 1440p 144Hz (Asus ROG PG278Q for ex.) for quality. I mainly play CS:GO ; GTA V ; BF:4, maybe BF;1 not sure yet. What do you think is best ?

Your 970 is awesome at 1080p, but just decent at 1440p. Unless you see yourself upgrading your 970 in the near future, go with the 1080p.

If you are going to get the 1080, then go for the 1440p 144hz.

Yeah it really is. But 1440p is a bit too much I guess ? I'll get the GTX 1080 in July only.. so maybe I'll just wait for a next year christmas and get me a 1440p screen. x)

It would but I'll need to lower the game's settings so the 1440p becomes kinda useless if it's to display an okay looking game in 1440p rather than displaying a game in ultra at 1080p, I think I got my awnser, I'll stick with 1080p for now with the Asus PG248Q which looks like a really good 144Hz( Up to 180Hz with DisplayPort overclocking) /1080p screen and I'll see for 1440p later on when I'll get my GTX1080.
