Hi,

So I built my gaming pc way back in 2012 and its lasted this long however it is in need of a update as before it was used for casual games that weren't too demanding but with the games I am playing now it's either slow or the settings are on low-medium.

Here are the current specs:

Operating System
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

CPU
Intel Core i5 3570K @ 3.40GHz: 49 °C
Ivy Bridge 22nm Technology

RAM
8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard

ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. P8H61-MX USB3 (LGA1155): 32 °C

Graphics
2369M (1920x1080@59Hz)
G2460 (1920x1080@60Hz)
2048MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series (ATI AIB): 44 °C
Storage

931GB Seagate ST1000DM003-1CH162 ATA Device (SATA): 35 °C
Optical Drives

TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-224DB ATA Device
Audio
VIA High Definition Audio

Anyway I am willing to spend somewhere around £700-£800 on a general upgrade. My thoughts were to upgrade the gpu, ram and buy an SSD as well. Was thinking of buying the GTX 1070 for a gpu.

Where would the money best be spent on upgrading the PC, any and all advice appreciated!

so, what i saw from the start is the 800mhz ram clock speed. This is definately too slow by todays standards, 8gb are fine, but the speed it offers is simply not enough. You just have to buy some faster ram. Just go to a local computer shop and ask for a single (or maybe 2 if you want) 8gb ram sticks ddr3 1666mhz clockspeed (since is the highest amount your motherboard supports without overclocking. Should cost 25/50$)

Other one is the gpu. You don't need to go for the 1070, since you don't plan on 4k 30fps :p. You can go with this red/black one since it looks fancy aswell. It is a GTX 970 from msi with their twin-fronze cooling solution. https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-GTX-970-4G-Graphics/dp/B00NN0GEXQ/?tag=amazon0c83-21
Would definately do well for full hd gaming.

EDIT : Your cpu keeps up for the moment, as well as your motherboard. Just collect some money and upgrade it next year for a mid tier i5-75xx that will probably come out, or one from the new amd's zen processors, who seem to be good enough to challenge intel once again. Since you upgrade your cpu to a different socket, you'll need a new motherboard aswell. Pick one with ddr4 ram and buy 2 8gb ddr4 ram sticks aswell. (these were possible future/next year's upgrades)

Thanks for the advice but I was thinking more along the lines of upgrading the PC so as to future proof it for the next 4-5 years, I will buy the ram for more of an immediate change but if I wanted to upgrade most parts so they last a while is it still best to go with the 970 and an i5?

I was having a look and little play around and came up with this build:

Since the motherboard will need changing to support the different sockets as well I added that to the build? Is the build any good and worth investing in?
