So I'm a new overclocker messing around with my i5 6600K and Gigabyte Z170MX Gaming 5 Mobo. I can get it stressed at 4.7 Ghz around 1.220 volts never exceeding 50c on "auto" voltage. However, when I try and set the voltage manually, even if I crank it to 1.300 or 1.350 it will crash. I've always heard auto voltage is bad because it usually over volts systems. Mine seems to purr right along just above 1.2.

Are you sure it maintains that 1.220 volts the entire time. You should use a program that show's you a constant voltage reading and do a stress test on the CPU to make sure it doesn't go past 1.35 volts.

I'm using Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and CPUID HWMonitor. What is confusing me though is that the Intel Program shows a different voltage than CPUID. For example... Right now I'm at 4.7 Ghz and CPUID shows me at 1.392V and Intel shows me at .70-.80 V. I'm on adaptive right now, but the CPUID doesn't look very adaptive to me.

Interesting, i do not see any voltage reading for me in Intel Extreme Tuning Utility but CPUID shows my I7 4790k maxing at at 1.224 volts @ 4.4 ghz when i stress test it. It would appear it's adapting to voltage it sees fit for your 4.7GHz overclock on the 6600k. TBH i would bring that clock down till you can use 1.35 volts. Anything higher isn't very good for the health of skylake chips.

Copy, thanks. The core voltage on Intel Extreme Tuning is an option you have to manually select.

TBH i would take most of what the Tuning utility says with a little bit of salt. Given that it says my Corsair Vengeance Pro's are made by Manufacturer 0215 and my GTX 1070 only has 4GB of VRAM lol.

Yeah so my voltage is way off on the Intel Tuning Utility. I'm no where near running at 1.220 volts at 4.7 ghz. Looking at HWMonitor I'm actually at about 1.380V. But I'm stable and temps for 30 mins stress don't get above 55 C so I'm extremely happy with that. I think that's the max I would push this thing though. Don't like the idea of getting over 1.4V.
