Hello all,

My system is getting old and now it feels like its time to upgrade the CPU (and mobo) as it is my bottleneck (after upgrading my vga) right now. Im thinking of i3 6100 or i5 4460. Any imputs? Other models and suggestions? Below my current specs:

AMD 1090T @ 3,725
MB Asrock A770DE
8gb ddr3 patriot 1333mhz
Corsair CX 500W
WD BLUE
GTX 970 mini ITX

For old game like WoW (yes... legion brought me back), for instance, my performance is being hindered by the CPU hugely, the cpu gets 100% on one core and around 60% on the others while the GPU is at around 60%.

Is it time for an upgrade? What direction in CPU and mobo to take?

Thanks in advance.

Best for gaming at a normal budget is the i5-6500 CPU, if you can't spend the extra $70 then the i5-4460 is fine, and you can also re-use your RAM then.

You may be able to sell your current CPU and motherboard for a bit to offset the cost of the i5-6500, and unless you are getting used parts, the i5-4460 is about as much, unless you count the DDR4 RAM purchase in.

Yeah, for now switching to Intel will give you the best bang for the buck. The i5-6400 (3.3GHz) and i5-6500 (3.6GHz) offers good performance. The i5-6500 is probably around $15 more which is a pretty small premium.

If you want to stick with AMD, then my advice would be to wait if you can. The new AMD Zen CPUs are expected to be released some time in Q4 2016 which means between October and December.
