Hi,

My son plays Steam games 90% of the time using a Strix GTX 970 and 24 inch TN iiyama monitor running 2 ms 60 HZ on ultra etc. We are looking at upgrading his monitor to -

Either:

1080p 144HZ
1080p or 1440 - 144HZ plus G Sync

My conundrum is

1. Keep setup an purchase a 24 or 27 inch 144 Hz monitor with no g sync (don't think this is value for money) or

2. Upgrade to a 1440 G Sync 144 HZ monitor - but would I need to either purchase another Strix GTX 970 for less than 300 pounds upgrade to SLI to run 1440 144 HZG Sync monitor or upgarde graphics card?

Thanks in advance and any suggestions for pure gaming monitors pc used 90% for gaming.

Depending on the games graphics, you can use 1080p or 1440p. If it's a simple game like Civilization or Skyrim etc, 1440p is fine. For the massively detailed games like GTA:V or Battlefield 1 then you'd be better with 1080p. The gtx970 is a great card, but it's right at the cusp of performance between those 2 resolutions with high-max detail settings.
Could also use the ½ adaptive sync to set the refresh at 72Hz instead of the full 144Hz which can help with tearing issues.
