Hi all i have an argument with an internet random that for 2x 1080 SLI an 1,000 watt PSU is future proofing (for overclocking) despite the fact that components are getting smaller and more power efficient. I have a 980ti with 860i and in every SLI forum thread I've read even for overclocking 1,000 is overkill, so id like community opinion on this, hell see the thread when he googles to see who is right or wrong lol.

1000 is over kill for most things, unless you have an audio card, wireless card, a bunch of hdd/sdd, a few dvd drives, stuff like that. that being said, i do have a 1000 for my build and i haven't even sli/ or crossfired, mainly cause i got it super cheap, 40 bucks and its modular

you will want a tier 1 psu.
personally i wouldn't go lower than 850w although you may be able to. also as above i have a 1000w tier 1 for only one 1080 so... yeah also future proofing. the manual recommends 500w minimum for one.

TBH you could run both of them and have some overclocking headroom on a high quality 650W PSU, a gold-platinum 850W from a reputable brand like EVGA, Corsair, Seasonic, etc... will be more than enough. 1000W is overkill for pretty much anything these days, unless you're building a mining rig.
