I am trying to replace my PC with a laptop. I have been using a 22'' 1680 x 1050 monitor on my PC for many years and I am awfully used to both the resolution and the screen size, but specially to the resolution. There are two identical (hardware-wise) laptops I have come across that I wish to purchase through Amazon (therefore seeing them in real at first won't be possible and I have checked the stores near me and none seem to have any of those models and any 17'' 1600 x 900 models). I am not sure which resolution would be most suitable for me after my long usage of a 22'' 1680 x 1050 screen.

Won't 1600 x 900 in a 17'' monitor be pretty much the same as 1368 x 768 in 15''? I can stand the size of a 15'' screen, but 1368 x 768 is a nightmare for me, I cannot even properly browse the web in comfort in such a resolution, so let alone doing software-oriented tasks.. But will I see a huge difference if I go for a 17-inch 1600 x 900 screen compared to 15'' 1368 x 768? Or the difference is not really that huge?

If you are used to 1680x1050 on a 22" then as long as the resolution's concerned, it's unlikely that you'll have any trouble with either of those, and yes they both scale the same way. Also, compared to the 1050/22", both the 768/15" and the 900/17" would be an improvement, as in resolution/size ratio. Screen size is another thing, however, as it might require a bit of getting-used-to.
