Hey!

I am a first time builder looking for advice on my gaming build. I'm planning to use it for 1080p gaming (144Hz if possible) along with a little video/ image editing.

Here it is as it currently stands:

I already have a reasonable HDD to bulk up the storage.

This is at the top end of my budget though, so ideally I'd like to drive down the price, but I don't want to compromise on performance too much. I'm also trying to make it upgrade friendly for when I want to swap out parts down the line.

How does it look at the moment?

Thanks!

Your build looks very good. The only thing I would change is the PSU to a better quality one. You only need 450 watts for this system but the XFX above is priced very well right now and will save you some coin.

Thanks BadActor, that's very helpful!

What is it that makes it a better PSU? Just generally better quality parts and a more reliable manufacturer? I'm really not sure what I'm doing when it comes to PSUs so I saw a reasonably priced one and threw it into the parts list.

Using a Hyper series motherboard would also require using faster RAM and and a decent CPU cooler which would drive up the cost a little. PSU's vary widely in quality and performance. A quality PSU will have a modern design, good quality parts like the caps and fans, have good power regulation and generally, a warranty longer than a year or two.
