Hi, I have an SSD I used in my old system just for games.
I am building a new PC and want to use this SSD for my OS. Do I need to clean the old games off of it before I install the operating system? And there is more than enough room for the OS.
I've heard that taking stuff off SSD's is bad for their lifespan.

A clean windows install will give you the option to delete whatever was there.
Do that.

As to ssd endurance, it is no issue even for the heavy desktop user.
Your ssd will be obsolete long before it wears out.

Thank you. I thought this was an option. Just wanted to make sure I had everything prepped for when my parts arrive!

The games won't have the required registry entries anyways with your new OS install, so it is a moot point to try to keep them on the drive.

You will have 2 writes (new format and installation) of some of the blocks. The less you have on an SSD the better (if you only have a limited amount of free space those free space blocks get written to over and over). Best on your OS SSD drive (if you can) to have just the OS and critical utilities.

If you are installing Win10, it helps to disable as much of the telemetry as possible to decrease writes.

Also, since it's an SSD, do you really need superfetch, prefetch, and the hibernation system active? (all involve extra writes)

Just a few points, only you know how you prefer your system to work.
