Hello there,

I'm currently trying to obtain a new build with the following specs:

CPU: i7-6700k @ 4GHz
MOBO: MSI Z170A Krait Gaming 3X
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070
RAM: HyperX FURY 16GB DDR3 1866
Cooling: Corsair H110i

I currently have a Corsair CX750M PSU and was wondering if this would be adequate for my potential new rig.

Thanks in advance!

The CX line isn't great for overclocking builds. If you have the funds I suggest upgrading to either of these two PSU's to ensure your system remains stable under duress:

Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($89.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $89.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Or

Power Supply: Corsair RMx 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($99.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $99.99

Thanks!!

My max budget is around $1500. Currently the build I listed there lies around $1200 excluding the PSU and including the case. I already have peripherals and monitor. I'm just focused on the PC itself. White/Black components are preferred for theme purposes.

Here you go, should be all you need.
You need DDR4 memory btw.

At the moment, I only have a 50/60Hz monitor.

My intended use for this computer is heavy gaming as well as 3D modeling software. Would the 6700k be better for the 3D rendering? Or would it still be better to stick with the 6600K?

Regarding the motherboard.. I like that one a lot. Another one I was looking at was the ASUS Z170 S Sabertooth. Which one is worth picking? And are there any other even better mobos with a similar color scheme (black and/or white) with a relatively similar price? Such as MSI Z170A

Another question pertaining to storage... I plan to use the same HDD for my new build, which I imagine will mean that I will have to reinstall windows. What steps do I need to take to ensure that all my files and necessary documents are safe when switching builds? I already know that programs, applications, and games will be useless and will require re-downloading once I've switched the HDD to the new build.

Thanks again

^ what he said (well 90% anyway)
there is a new cx750m too.

if your old psu looks like this

black badge,green/white writing - its the old circa 2012 model & you should in all honesty replace it.

if it looks like this

black/silver label,black writing - youre good.

The old model is capable of running that rig but it has 2 major issues
1.its not even close to capable of its 750w label rating.
2.The old 2012 models have a tendency to just outright die before their time,

why even risk it with that much moneys worth of components??
$60-70 gets you something very good quality with a 5 year warranty & all brand new & shiny.
drop in the ocean when youre spending that kind of budget anyway imo.

I looked it up , only the 3 models , I mentioned above have the added DC-DC converters to help with reliability and stability.

Polymer capacitors are used in these 3 models , WHICH TEND TO HAVE A LONGER LIFE and don't fail as often as the former electrolytic capacitors that were used.

Yes mate , been looking , rails are exactly the same.
The newer badged model has a bigger fan, weighs 300gram more, & has a slightly different cable layout.

It does have a 40c rating & 5 year warranty so I'm not entirely sure what corsair have dome here at all.

Upgraded the fan & dropped some heatsinks in there somewhere ???!!??
Maybe - this is corsair after all, & it wouldn't be the first time they'd done something that is essentially stupid & underhand

I posted a couple other questions earlier, but I'll repost them here :p

And in a general case, what features do you look for in the Z170's across different boards to see which is better?

Yes, the 6700k would be better.
The Z170-A is a better option overall imo, but all comes down to personal preference.
The MSI Z170-A isn't as good, but still solid.
I look for features, quality components and good support.
