Hi All,

Nearly time for my yearly PC upgrade, i'm holding out for the RX490/Vega for now but my question is whether upgrading my 4790k to a 6700k is worth the £600+? i've read reviews saying it isnt and that the 4790k is still one of the best CPU's for gaming but thought i'd get some real world opinions.
My specs are in my Signature (GPU's will be CFX RX490/Vega cards).

Some games can really benefit for going to Skylake especially due to the DDR4.
However, going from i7 4790k to i7 6700k is not worth the price in my opinion.
It is better to invest on new and strong GPU e.g. RX490 or GTX1080Ti or whatever.

I would say no. Haswell is only about 10% slower than Skylake, and judging by your specs, I assume you have overclocked. The difference would be noticeable, but not very much. If you have the spare £600 then sure, however, I would personally spend it on a 1080 and save the money that you would be spending on the rx490.

In synthetic benchmarks the i7-4790k is sometimes faster then the i7-6700k. But in the benchmarks where the i7-6700k is faster it isn't much faster so its not worth the upgrade. Your i7-4790k is a great CPU and will remain competitive for 3-4 more years.
