So I was having some problems with Windows 10 giving me bad image errors and Blue Screens of Death so I got tired and decided to wipe my HDD and reinstall Windows, which went without a hitch. However, now for some reason, every time I turn on my computer the system shuts off mid-boot and when I press the power button again it boots up just fine.

My system is fairly new, I built it about 3 months ago so I don't think it's a hardware issue unless my HDD went bad somewhere along the way (which I hope not). The BIOS is also up to date (just updated a few days ago). Any idea what could be going on?

My system specs:
MOBO: ASUS Z170-Premium
RAM: G. Skill Trident Z (16GB@4000MHz)
CPU: Intel i7 6700K (O.C. 4.4GHz)
HDD: Western Digital Black 2TB
GPU: Zotac GTX 1080 Amp Extreme!

Solution

Yes only a single HDD, I currently do not own any other storage devices. I disabled XMP and this SEEMS to have fixed the problem. It hasn't done it again since I disabled it.
