That hasn't been my wife's experience at all, I put it on her laptop 6 years ago and the only nag screen she ever sees once a year is to re-register as expected, that's the Antivirus Free software I'm referring to, not the Security Suite.

And I also recommended Comodo as a full security suite because that's what I've been using for years.

Norton & McAfee are way too bloated and you have to pay for them - I won't use any security software that isn't free, not until all the free stuff has gone.
It's only a trial version of Norton (probably 90 days, after which you have to pay a subscription or it will stop updating itself).

The trial also comes pre-installed on laptops & factory-built PCs, it's one of the first thing I remove when friends ask me to set up their new PC.

You're better off installing a free alternative such as Avast AV Essential or, for AV + Firewall, Comodo Internet Security.

NOrton & Macafee get installed on almost everything to get unsuspecting people who just install it and never think to upgrade again. Parents PC came with Macaphee 6 years ago and only just got rid of it last year.

Avast? App spends half its time trying to sell you things. I had it up until December when I got sick of them begging for money and I was using their security Suite, I couldn't really pay them much more.

can't go wrong with any of these but Avast is just above Defender, and everything else above it: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/best-antivirus,review-2588-5.html

I use Bitdefender as it asks me no questions, it just does it job and pretty well.
