CPU is i5-4690k at stock speed for now...
First things first, I hate the looks of the bulky/high air coolers. I prefer the low-profile ones (for example Cryorig C7 and many others). I don't care too much about performance because I won't be overclocking too high, so temps at extreme overclocking levels aren't an issue here. So it's either that or watercooling, but the latter is more expensive.

Am I wrong for wanting low-profile air cooling?

If you don't care about temp, just pick the one with better looks(personal preference) or depends on price.
my friend just bought a pc and put a AIO water cooler in his rig totally because the AIO has better look.

In what way would an AIO run quieter?
Not only are there many reviews showing otherwise, the product itself lends to this as well.

A large, single fan on a heatsink with lots of open air space, compared to a dense stack of fins in a radiator, not to mention pump noise. Quiet, and CLCs dont go together.
