Looking to upgrade my CPU from an a8-6600k to a fx-8350 to match my r9 380x 4gb

I currently have a a8-6600k, which i believe is bottlenecking my r9 380x 4gb. I was wondering if upgrading to a fx-8350 would fix my problems and allow me to run games smoothly.
Some more information: I have a 550w PSU (which i think is enough?), 8GB of ram and a 500gb WDB HDD. With my current setup i can barely run Battlefield 1 at all at 1080p lowest settings and the VResolution scaled down.
By upgrading to a fx-8350 would i be able to play games such as GTA V and battlefield 1 on high settings at 1080p/60FPS with no problem? i suppose putting in a 128gb SSD for windows couldn't hurt either.
Thanks for any future replies!

Since you have to change Motherboard to do this change i would recommend to change to i5 series. You can find similar priced CPU but way better in Intel lines. I was for AMD always. and loved red team.... Just ... There is no competition anymore. Intels are way superior to AMDs and there is no any point of buying FX series. You can indeed buy SSD with it pc can be just better.

Regards.

I wouldn't bother with the 8350. I had one for years but have recently switched from amd to intel due to the fact that the 8350 is just so close to the end of it's life cycle. AMD's new lot of CPU should be hitting the shelves sometime early-ish next year. So if you upgrade to an 8350 you will probably find yourself wanting to upgrade again sooner than you think! Which will also mean switching out your motherboard again. I would either wait it out for the new lot of AMD CPUs to come out or make a move to a skylake cpu if you can as then it gives you a greater scope for future upgrades.

I didn't actually realize I would need to change my motherboard around, i don't know much when it comes to Motherboard's so would the best option be going onto PcPartPicker and working out a build with a new CPU and motherboard that is compatible with all my other components? Does the Motherboard really matter/are there any specifics i should look for in purchasing a motherboard?

Also now that i am searching around for motherboards i don't think that i would be able to purchase one on top of a new CPU anytime soon, What kind of performance would i get out of upgrading my a8-6600k to something like an a10-7890k, would my R9 380 still bottleneck the a10?
Thank you very much for the help :)

Your current CPU is FM2 socket and AMD FX 8350 is AM3+ socket. So for that change you will need to change Motherboard too. So you may as well change to intel and Pick some newer and better CPU.
There is slight price difference but is way worth use newer i5 than fx series and SSD. So better skip ssd and buy newer i5.

Also. What power supply brand do you have? You dont want risk with old and/or bad power supply

Out of interest, did that change achieve anything?

So in the end it would be best for me to flag the idea of getting a new MOBO/fx-8350 or a a10-7890k and instead save to buy a new MOBO along side an i5 (maybe such as a 6600k?). Does anyone have any recommendations for a Motherboard/CPU that would work with my r9 380 ( i'm hoping to play games at 1080p/60FPS on high settings, but i am okay with bumping the settings down to meet the glorious 60FPS) . If possible, trying to keep the costs as minimal as possible?

To keep costs cheap i would recommend go with non K processor as lowest i5 6500 or bit higher i5 6600 almost any MB will work with your video card. If you dont want upgrade vidoe card is best to go with i5 6500
Also for that you will need ddr4 rams (probably you have ddr3) What power supply you have?
I can make you part picker list if you want.

I've currently got 8gb of kingston (HyperX i think?) ddr4 RAM and a 550W PSU. its all in a Micro ATX case however, so that may limit the build in some way. Would something like a i5 6600 be able to perform up to the level that i am wanting?
I really appreciate all the help :)

The switch was part of a big overhaul of my system I went from FX8350 to Skylake 6700k. I also ditched my R9 290X Xfire config in exchange for a single GTX1070 as I was going from 1080p to 1440p as well. So apples to apple comparison on the difference in terms of CPU I cannot say but overall my system runs far more smoothly and cooler as you can imagine.
The move from AM3+ to LGA 1151 has imo left me a far wider upgrade path if need be. If the new AMD ZEN cpu range was already available I would have highly considered the move to that but as it's still not out yet skylake seemed like the way to go.

I hope that answered your query :)

Many believe that you would get a big improvement, but so few have been able to test it and say 'yes it did', hence the question. Thanks.

When I was running the 8350 with the Xfire 290Xs my system certainly felt like it was being bottlenecked at times especially in BF4 and I did have some stability issues with it as well at times with it being such a power hungry chip! Since the change I've had no issues what so ever. Either way I hope AMD bounce back a bit with their new ZEN chips as in terms of the enthusiast market they don't have anything really worth upgrading or changing to right now.

Thank you very much for all the help! i think i will be able to scrape together a bit of money by Christmas and potentially get the first parts list that you linked but with an i5-6600 instead of the 6500, i really do appreciate all the help! :)

Yes you can change. But look for change Video card in future too As is pretty old video card the one you have :) does not need a change right now with CPU but might be issue in games that is weak. As for i5 6600 you are safe for 1080p and 60 fps :D
