I have an issue where I cannot log into my windows 10 account. I have had this before and have had to reset windows 10 firstly by restarting from log in screen while holding shift to reach the options menu. This time however, if I click the icon to restart from the log in screen on the bottom right, it just opens the password field and no options appear to shut down or restart as before.

This renders me powerless, after accepting I would have to reinstall all my programs again I am at a loss as to what to do.

Can anyone offer any help please?

For starters, the screen you are on is the advanced menu, if you hit the arrow in top left corner and went to previous screen, reset should be here. Refer: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanced-startup-options-boot-windows-10-a.html

Activation: win 10 is the first version of windows where You don't need to know your licence anymore. Provided PC is activated now on Win 10, every time you reinstall Win 10 again, and get to screen asking for licence key, you just click "I don't have a key" and win 10 will auto activate itself once installed. Your PC + old licence are recorded online against a digital entitlement to Win 10 meaning its Microsoft who remember it all from now on. You can also link your Digital entitlement to your...

if anything on PC you want to save, try this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/

On another PC, download the Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB

Now.. You can do a fresh install using the installer or you can use installer to boot to advanced startup and run a reset, If you have copied everything off hdd before then, I would suggest a fresh install if this has happened before.

Guide to fresh install: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

If you prefer a reset,
change boot order so USB is first, hdd second
boot from installer
on screen after languages, choose repair this pc, not install.
choose reset this PC
wipe it all since you can't login now so saving files/settings would be pointless
PC will restart and reinstall win 10.

OK... Thanks for the reply. Created said Windows flash drive but when booted there is no option to reset, I have System Restore/Image Recovery/Start up Repair/Cmd & previous build. I have considered a fresh install but worried about re-activating with original W7 key.
