Corsair Hydro Series H80i
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
Samsung 24x DVD/CD Re-Writer/Reader - Black - (SATA)
NZXT Phantom 410 - Black
AMD FX 9590 (8 x 4.7 GHZ - Turbo 8 x 5.0 GHZ)
Sound Blaster Audigy FX 5.1 (PCI-E)
Corsair HX 1050W (Modular) PSU - Low Noise
120 MM Corsair Air Series Performance
16 GB Corsair Vengeance 1866 MHz (2x8GB)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti - 6 GB - (MSI) Twin Frozr V - (PCI-E)

Still has 2 years of warranty left on all parts

What do you think?

IMHO, it worth much more as parts than complete build due to the CPU.
FX part significantly downgrades the total worth of the system.
If the CPU + MB switched to i5/i7 , it is awesome 1440p gaming machine.

Which MB and CPU do you recommend?

depends on your budget, monitor and preferences.
fro 144Hz monitor, i'd recommend i7. for anything less, i5 will be fine.
the cheapest option would be picking second hand i5/i7 of 4th gen + new MB - that way you also get to keep your ram.
non K i5 can be found for well under 100$ + 50-70$ MB and you are good to go for ~130-150$
new overclockable i5+decent Z170 board will be closer to 400$ including new 16GB DDR4 ram. (+100$ for i7)
as you can guess there is a huge area in the middle.
