Thinking of upgrading from a GTX 960 to a 1060?

At the moment I have a GTX 960 2GB GPU and I am thinking of upgrading to the GTX 1060 6GB but I want to know if it will have a affect on having large scale battles in Skyrim Remastered / Fallout 4, As in will upgrading the Graphics Card allow my pc to handle more NPC's at one time or is that more down to CPU?

The rest of my specs are:

Intel Core i5 4430 3Ghz

8GB Ram

Windows 10 Pro

most of the multi-player type stuff is cpu dependent and not gpu dependent

the move to a 1060 will allow for higher resolution or settings for the eye candy
