Two 144hz Monitors causing sluggish performance

So I recently purchased a brand new ASUS pg248 180hz monitor which I tend to use only at 144hz, and my other monitor is an ASUS VG248 running at 144hz. Prior to my pg248 I had a 60hz as my secondary monitor where I could play games with ease. Now, whenever I hop onto a game with my dual 144hz monitor setup, every 2-3 seconds I get this stutter and sluggish performance which has become quite frustrating. I don't know if it's the way I plugged in my monitor or if it's whether or not I need to upgrade a specific part on my pc. Any help is appreciated.
P.S. My pg248 is plugged in via display port with hdmi and my VG248 is plugged in via VGA or DVI (not sure)

Yes, I have to most up-to-date version.

Then I guess it's time to upgrade your GPU. The GTX 970's sweet spot is at 1080p. Nonetheless, it will do well with SLI on 144hz monitor if and only if you play on one monitor only. I believe the GTX 1080 or the 1080Ti will suit you the best.
