Hello,

So i bought a Acer XG270HUA monitor to find that it supports (AMD) Freesync rather than (Nvidia) G-sync and i had my eye on buying a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 graphics cards.

I understand that to get the full functionality of the monitor that i'd be looking at buying a AMD RX480 graphics cards to make use of the Freesync tech.

My friend advised me that regardless of making use of Freesync that i should still invest in a GeForce GTX 1070 as they are so much more superior over the RX480+Freesync benefit and that Freesync won't make much of a difference anyway. Would you agree with this?

Thanks for you time :)

performance wise the 1070 is so superior its not funny

HOWEVER, you need a proper intel build to use it

if you have an amd setup you are better off with the 480 + freesync

This is my current PC setup...

Case - Antec 300 Three Hundred
MOBO - Asus P6T SE iX58 Socket 1366 8 Channel Audio ATX
CPU - Intel Core i7 920 D0 2.66GHz Socket 1366 8MB Cache Retail Boxed
HD - Samsung SpinPoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache - OEM
PSU Fan - Corsair 750W TX PSU - 120mm Fan, 80+% Efficiency, Single +12V Rail
RAM - Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz XMS3 Memory CL9(9-9-9-24)
GPU - ATI Radeon HD 5850 series graphics card
PSU - Corsair TX750 W

...However i'm currently looking to upgrade my GPU as mentioned before. I've also ordered an additional SSD with my monitor. Come December, i'm looking to drastically overhaul everything, and i'm waiting til then for a specific deal that i've been made aware of that includes a i7 6700k processor and Asus Z170 MOBO so this should give you an idea of what components i am and will be using (hopefully) in the future.

What's your opinion in reference to the "proper intel build" in respect to my current (and possible) future PC setup?

Cheers! :)

see i was about to buy a zotac 1070 yesterday, but then monitor research halted everything. What the optimal monitor the card can handle? is 144hz at 1440p doable?

go ahead and grab a 1070 if you want

you will not see full performance from it until you upgrade your setup though

you would be able to get over 100 fps on a lot of games yes, if paired with an i7 or overclocked i5

not all though

What's currently restricting the performance of a 1070 in my current setup? Could you please explain? Also to what percentage am i likely to see in performance increase from upgrading just the GPU currently before the final overhaul at the end of the year?

Thanks

cpu is too slow

the jump from a 5850 is going to be large, its barely in the same tier as a gtx 750
