Is ASUS VG248QE overkill for HP Envy 750-435st?

Might sound like a stupid question, but my wife decided on this desktop

and then saw this monitor on sale at Best Buy, for Black Friday
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-24-led-fhd-monitor-black/8767099.p?skuId=8767099

and though I know it's a good price for that monitor, she doesn't play games at all. Maybe sims, once in a while, but that's it.....so is this monitor overkill, for just everyday stuff? We both know the desktop is a bit future proofed, for her needs, but can she even benefit from that monitor, with the GPU that comes with the HP. I know it never "hurts" to go overkill, but we're both wondering if it was way overkill.

Thanks, in advance!

It is a great price and don't know what you would save by getting something else. Question is what might it be used for "down the road". If you are a retired couple, won't matter as much as if say you had kids coming of age.

Thanks for the input! Yeah....after doing a little more research, I can see that the GPU in that machine probably won't give the monitor what it needs to get the full benefit, even if she was a gamer. We're in our 50's, and no kids in the picture, but like you said, at that price, there's no harm....maybe just not ever going to see the full benefit of that monitor. She just went to the Best Buy Black Friday sale, and saw it, and decided to buy it. I guess there's no downside to getting it, at that price. Paying full price, with that GPU, and not being a gamer....would probably fall into the "stupid" category, haha.

You can set the monitor to any refresh rate you want. You can also use toasty strobelight to reduce motion blur.

My kids are 27, 26 (in 5 days) and 20 ... and they let me play their games... we have been building PCs together for ourselves and others for 20+ years ... and that's the only thing they still ask for my advice on :)

Nice. :)

Yeah....I tried to get her to build one, as I built my first about 4 1/2 years ago, and it's still going, and I liked the satisfaction of picking specific parts.....you know the drill. :) But, she wanted to get a pre built. I get it....it shows up, turn it on, and use it. Plus you have a warranty. But regardless, she got a pretty nice computer, for a pretty good price for what she's getting, which is still more than she needs. She's very practical, which isn't a bad thing, but I'm just glad she didn't go and buy a $500 desktop to save money.
