Hey guys! So I was looking into possibly getting a better CPU for my desktop, maybe an AMD FX-8350 or 8370, but was told it's a bad idea for my board. My board is a Gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3 Rev 6.0.

If an 8350 or 8370 would throttle on this board, is it a bad idea to overclock my AMD FX-6300? Would I need a better cooler than the stock cooler I currently have? Or is it a bad idea all around? Thanks guys! Much appreciated!

Its a bad idea in general to upgrade from an FX 6300 to fx 8350 those are 4 year old going on 5 year old cpu's on a dead platform. You would be much better off saving your money and switching to intel. Or wait to see what AMD zen offers in a few months.

To answer your question a 125watt TDP cpu like the 8350 or 8370 is not a good idea to use with that board. It would work but the VRM's would likely get very hot even at stock clocks which could cause throttling or instabilty and possibly shorten the boards lifespan.

Well alright. I'm going to upgrade my PSU and GPU for the moment, probably get a new board and CPU in the future hopefully!
