So, parts list first.... A *** means the part is already delivered or in transit to me, otherwise its still up in the air
- EVGA 1000w fully modular power supply (gold certified)***
- Intel i5-6600K Skylake 3.5GHz ***
- ASUS Maximus VIII Hero motherboard (LGA 1151) ***
- Deepcool Genome II w/ integrated 360mm radiator and liquid cooling block***
The next is where it gets tricky and I haven't been able to make a decision.
The video card I'm leaning towards (about 80% sold on this one, still thinking about a 960 but im thinking since the 1060 is only like 50 bucks more may as well get it and not have to upgrade again as quickly).... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1N84PR6814&cm_re=geforce_gtx_1060-_-14-126-133-_-Product
The big question is with the RAM. Per the specs, the skylake chip supports 1800/2133 on DDR4... But a lot of the builds I'm seeing using the i5-6600K and the Maximus VIII Hero use ram that is clocked at 2400/2666... Now, for whatever reason, the 2133MHz RAM listed in the QVL is actually more expensive than the 2666 (184 for 2666 vs 193 for 2133)... On one hand, I'm trying to stay as true as I can to the compatibility specs of each component, but I also hear that Skylake works really well with higher clock speed RAM... I'm also hearing if I ever have any issues with the board I will want to make sure that the RAM is listed in the QVL... So at a loss here which way to go on the RAM... 2666 vs. 2133... Pricewise, basically the same but... do i hurt myself by taking the 2666? Since it's not specifically listed on the processor specs?
