I currently have a GTX 980 in my PC. But after seeing all these videos about the GTX 1070 and 1080 I am concerned about my 980 not being futureproofed for next year. I seek to play games on ultra settings at 1080p or 4k over the next year. I have an i7 6700k @ 4.0 GHz and 16GB of RAM. Thank you in advance for any answers. :bounce: :bounce:

Well a single 980 will barley do max settings 4k 60fps in this years perfomance heavy titles or last year for that matter, it was never meant for 4k gaming. It should be pretty good for 1440p and 1080p however, it performs pretty much on par with my 1060 6gb and I can max out pretty much all games easily at 1080p 60fps. Upgrade when you feel the 980 no longer performs to your standards.

If you are sticking with 1080p you should be just fine and you "should" be alright with 1440p. If it stumbles a little, use MSI afterburner to make a more aggressive fan curve and overclock it a bit. If you are dead set on 4k you might want to upgrade but I would buy the monitor first, try it out, and then if necessary buy a new GPU. Unfortunately there is no real future proofing since games keep upping the requirements by so much.
