old pc with lga775 socket

I have a friend that is willing to give his old pc(lga775 socket) to me and i wonder what the best cpu is for gaming or gaming servertasks(optional). i'm definitely going to throw a new GPU in there but maybe you guy's know a good combo? sorry for any english mistakes i'm not that good in it

We need the make and model of the board there are many lga775 chipsets and a wide range of cpus and not all are compatible.

The processor was a core 2 duo 6300 does that help?

Not really. There were many boards that would support some of the core 2 duos but not all and they also didnt support any of the core 2 quads. With the make and model you can look at the manufactures page and get a list of compatible cpus.
