I have a computer I bought in 2012: a Lenovo Thinkcentre M91p. With added memory and a new solid-state drive, it's a great machine for my purposes.
I need a new monitor. I see there is a displayport port on my computer (I currently use the VGA) , and I would like to know if I can rely on a new monitor with a displayport connection working on this relatively older display port. I can't tell from the Lenovo specs what the version of the computer's displayport. Does it matter? I'm looking at 1080 or 1200 monitors. Thank you!

Solution
Any displayport from 2012 should still be able to do 1080p no problem, and yes they are backwards compatible. So a Displayport 1.4 monitor would work with a 1.1 or 1.2 connection.
