Looking for a display for gaming under 300 USD

Hello,

I am planning to build a new computer as I'm tired to use my main TV as screen.

The computer will have i5, nvidia gtx1070 and 16gb of ram ddr4.

For the monitor I can allocate about 300 USD and the primary use of this computer will be gaming.

I'm thinking about getting the LG 29UM58-P (29", 2560x1080), but I'm a bit worried about getting an ultra wide
monitor with this resolution. I know there is better but I don't have the budget for a 32" 1440 ultra wide or 16:9.

I looked around but as I can't decide is like to hear some opinion from you guys. Thank you!

For gaming, specially if you are into AAA and FPS games, that 5ms response time is not very good. This should give you some balance though overall.

I was looking into that monitor from Asus as well, although it's old it looks like it has many good reviews.
I am not a FPS player, more adventure and RPG type, and I thought that an ultrawide monitor would have gave me better immersion.
Also I am worried that a gtx 1070 wouldn't be enough to boost 60fps in a AAA game next year if I buy a 1440p monitor. That's the reason why I was thinking about this 2560x1080 monitor.

The question is then better 27" at 1440p or 29" 2560x1080? Difficult choice

GTX 1070 and 1080 are pretty optimized for 1440p gaming. Also at 29" 1080p is not ideal for prominent pixeling density. 1080p looks good upto 24" or thereabout. More on that below...
