AMD A9 vs i3 6100U ?

Hey guys looking for some advice buying a new laptop. Looking at some Acer laptops. Both are the same price. One is an AMD A9 2.9GHz 8GB and one is a i3 6100U 2.3GHz 8GB. Will i notice a difference from my old 1.6GHz celeron ?

Which would you recommend for a person who doesn't play games and just uses it for daily activities with 4 or 5 tabs open at a time and watching 720 or 1080p videos ?

Is one less noisy ? Is one less likely to run warm ?

Depends on what Celeron, Intel has been making them for close to 20 years now.

You should see a huge improvement, that's one of the slowest CPUs Intel has released in recent history. The "N" CPUs are based on Intel's Atom "small" cores, and an i3 would probably be at least 3 times faster.

Ha ya it was painfully slow at times. So are faster computers a bit more noisy or do they run warmer than slower ones like a celeron N3350 ?

Depends. Your CPU has a 4w TDP, whereas the i3 is a 15w CPU, so in an absolute sense it puts out around 3-4x as much heat under heavy loads. However, the i3 will almost certainly have a proportionally larger cooler and may even be quieter. The CPU is also a relatively minor part of overall system power consumption in ultraportables these days, so battery life may not be any worse either. The i3 is a completely different architecture and is a more efficient CPU, so it can do more with its power budget too.

Oh ok i see. So you're saying it will be 3 times faster. What about a 2.3GHz 8GB i5-6200U or i5-4210U ? A few times faster than an i3 ? Because the i5's are only $50 more so i might be interested in that.

The i5 6200u and i3 6100u are the same physical CPU, the i5 can just reach a clockspeed of 2.8ghz instead of 2.3ghz, which is ~20% higher. The 4210U is an older CPU (4th generation instead of 6th generation) and should not be considered.
