Can you see over 60FPS on a 60hz monitor?

My friends and I are arguing about being able to seeing over 60FPS on a 60hz monitor. I say that you can notice a difference between 60FPS and say 80FPS on my 60hz monitor but they believe that since the monitor is 60hz there is no difference between 60FPS and anything over it. So who's right?

60 FPS is the equivalent to 60 Hertz. Frames are generated by the GPU, and Hertz is the maximum speed the monitor can display the frames generated by the GPU. I'd say your friend is correct.

I'd say they are right. I cap my fps at 60 on a 60Hz screen as the extra frames just give me screen tearing and the most the screen can display is 60

I've heard that higher FPS reduces input lag, which would make the game feel smoother even though you aren't seeing more than 60fps. I don't know if or how true that is though.
