I messed up

I messed up, I got a new ssd today and installed it right, then forgot to activate my windows 10, and formatted the hdd that had my windows on it. I have a usb with windows on it. DO I have to pay 200 for it,

If you have the key it should be fine. It'll activate

I don't have the key. it was upgraded from windows 7 like a year ago, and I threw away the key I had. Idk what to do

If you upgraded from 7 to 10 and activated it. It'll activate now with a clean install of 10

Custom well I dont think you can upgrade you've got nothing to upgrade from.

Select custom delete all the partitions, on it, then reinstall Windows 10

But if this is 64 bit and it supports UEFI, enable it and secureboot and AHCI before you install Windows

Also. I put the windows on my ssd partition. Is windows 10 tied to my mother board. If so why won't it worj. I'm installing now btw

Read the manual. If it has a UEFI BIOS it supports UEFI. Yes it is tied to whatever you install it on (the hardware)

Why wont what work?

I started a fresh clean windows install. I'm in now and under activation it says "unable to reach windows activation servers"

You have to get online with it first. Is it connected to ethenet or wireless?

You sure you upgraded from 7 to 10 and it activated?

Did you add your Hotmail acct when you upgraded from 7 to 10?? Add it see what happens

Is it Pro or Home?

Did you have Pro before tho? When you activated it??

Windows 7 was like home premium I think

Could be why it wont activate then if you had Premium Home. And that carried to Win10 after you upgraded from Windows 7

You cant install Pro (and I dont think you can activate a Home key if you install Pro).

You'll have to install Win10 Home to activate it

If you want Pro you'll have to buy it

Well you can get Home with the mediacreation tool I think. Get the ISO burn it put it on flash drive

Do the same thing you did here to install it. Hopefully it activates once it gets online (well it should if you had Home premium upgraded to win10 and it activated)
