I have an Asus A88XM-A motherboard which currently has one stick of Ballistix Sport XT 8GB 1866MHz DDR3 RAM, I am looking to upgrade to 16Gb however the price of the 8Gb stick has more than doubled.. I am looking to know if a kit of 2 x 4Gb Ballistix Sport XT 1866MHz DDR3 would work as it is half the price.

So you want to continue to have the 8GB, and then get the 4x2gb? As long as those two sticks are on the same channel, in theory it should work. However, I would strongly recommend you consider other brands for the 8GBx2 set.

I never actually thought of getting rid of the stick and getting a different set haha.. I have an AMD A6-6400K at stock speed. What sort of 16Gb kit would you guys recommend?

A simple 2133mhz should do just fine. I enjoy Corsair, G Skillz and Crucial.

I was under the impression that the RAM will run at the speed the CPU can handle. So even if he has 1866, he can still use 2133, but it will jsut run at 1866, correct? If so, https://jet.com/product/detail/003c44226063406890a58816c175e89b?jcmp=afl:link:8BacdVP0GFs:414385:6661139220:15&siteID=8BacdVP0GFs-AIIS3NJJw2sCZUV0IQivcA will save you $20

P.S. When did Walmart start selling RAM?
