no signal on monitor when using hdmi

So i just built a new computer and the monitor works with vga however using vga means that i cannot use my graphics card as it doesnt have a vga port. however when i try to use hdmi a no cable connection sign comes up. Could anyone help me please.

There could actually be a really simple solution to this.

Some monitors don't switch inputs automatically. Meaning, it may be set on VGA and is not set to look for any HDMI connection. Depending on what monitor you have, navigate through the monitor's menus using the buttons that are on the monitor.

Otherwise, it would be the HDMI cable or the HDMI port on either end could be damaged.
