Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Graphics Card Roundup (Archive)

While we're starting off with just four boards, this roundup will continue to grow as more GeForce GTX 1070 graphics cards arrive at our lab in Germany.

    I guess so.
  3. It would have been nice to see more included, especially those that that some have decidedly called them "B grade" units. (Where's eVGA? Asus? Zotac? PNY? (and others not available in the U.S. Market? (We know Palit isn't, yet it made the list.)) Was this limited to cards on-hand? I can understand, to a point, the limits of the "IF we haven't tested it, we don't include it," but at times this can be frustrating.
  4. Shocked to see No Gigabyte and Asus: two of most popular GPU manufacturers.
  5. I'm assuming the the idle and the gaming loop graphs in the power consumption charts should be swapped correct?
  6. "We will continue to update this roundup as new test samples become available. Some are already in the lab; others are en route". For you people that complain about only 4 cards for this roundup, can you read? There will be more GTX 1070's when they get them. Geez.
  7. TH_REDMAN,
    but why only four cards?
  8. Because four others are already waiting, with a Gigabyte. How many hours has your day? 48?
We had it together with the 1080's in Germany but here it was splitted into 1080 and 1070. More cards will follow. Word.

Asus? They sent me nothing yet. As so often. And: I need to disassemble it for a closer look. This is nearly impossible in Germany, because the Asus samples must rotete untouched through a lot of different media. They have only a few cards, too cost intensive for Asus.
  9. A shame that MSI, Gigabyte, et al aren't capable of making their own cards. Dressing up a bunch of NVidia boards with different fan configurations is a pretty poor illusion of choice.
  10. It would be nice to know what the test setup is. Not sure about the other games but those BF4 #s at 1440p are way too low. You should be averaging around 90. I do with my MSI Quicksilver in Factory OC mode paired my i5 6600k that is not overclocked. Playing on ultra of course. I think there was something wrong with that test.
  11. You need the right scene... If I walk around I have above 100. But this isn't a real test.
We use an average of a 60 second long, very fast jeep drive with a nice landscape.

Gigabyte was included... Look harder :)
  13. You ding the MSI for price... But add a card that's $100 more to the mix that's not even on the U.S. market., not fair to your .com audience.

This comparo is null-and-void IMO due to an outside/unavailable GPU and the lack of other vendor offerings. Tom's, can you please have a "do-over" once you get more cards from other vendors?
  14. any chance we can keep 1080p results going forward a while longer, please? loads of 144hz HD monitors still in use out here, & many peeps still prefer smoothness over a higher res (or just haven't upgraded our monitors yet).
  15. I agree, it should not have been called a roundup unless Toms included every single possible brand and configuration of GTX 1070. This is more like the GTX quartet. Demand that the title be renamed promptly! /sarcasm

Seriously, I was impressed by the Mini ITX GTX. Are there any ITX motherboards that have the ability to SLI? That would make for a really impressive configuration in a small package.

Any ITX MoBo that I've looked at just doesn't have the real-estate, especially with dual-slot GPUs.
  17. There is no "Very High" preset in The Division. High and Ultra are the top 2.
  18. The article in the German version is a lot more complete. Try that instead.
  19. Who actually runs their 1070s at stock settings? They have so much overclocking and undervoltaging potential. My 1070 run 1800mhz @ 70watts during Furmark.

I'm actually more interested in why it took so long. In particular, why did this come after the holiday shopping season?

Anyway, prices are too high. Vega badly needs to get here. Imagine if AMD dropped out of the GPU business, altogether. We'd be @%!#$ed.
  21. need a comparison between gigabyte 1070 itx and zotac 1070 mini
  22. why dont reveal the model of the msi gaming cards' mosfets? it is very strange, not just 1070 gaming x but also 1080 gaming z, almost every cards reviewed show the mosfet model. is this the msi review guide requirement to hide mosfet model of their cards?

btw, is this palit 1070 gamerock premium using lastest bios with enlarged power settings to 225w instead of 190w?
  23. Okay with the power graph... firstly i'm assuming it's watts being measured? It's hard to tell seeing it, the noise and the temp graphs don't indicate what's actually being measured.

Secondly, i'm also assuming the legend is incorrect as well? Since for example with the FE card it's saying the gaming loop is only 9 (watts?) but at idle it's a whole 150 which is even higher than the torture test o.O
  24. The chart graphics were re-built from US team, the German original is correct.
They are changing here every year the layout and colors, I used the design from last year. :D

I meant a proper Gigabyte one, not a mini one. The Gigabyte with 3 fans is so much better in performance.
  26. Could we get a roundup of more than 4 cards and omit the Founders Edition card (we all know it's the weakest of the category) and the Palit card (at over $100 more than the MSI it produces only 0.2 to 0.5 more fps)? Such a roundup (as requested) would be much more meaningful to your USA readers.

hotroderx downvoted my post for saying basically the same thing, LOL. True statement(s) though...

I'm actually glad it was included. I'm looking for a decent, second VR card (limited to ~150 W, on this one, or else I'd get another 980 Ti), and was thinking I'd pick up a 1070 FE on ebay, as people start upgrading to Vega, 1080 Ti, etc.

After reading the review on the FE card, I'm thinking it's probably better to avoid a card that runs so hot. I think it's also helpful in understanding why other cards are able to surpass it so easily.
  29. Three cards + FE =\= Roundup

    More fake news.

"Fake news" is much too harsh. They did a decent analysis, so it's certainly not clickbait.

We all agree that 4 is not enough, but I still say that having FE in there, as a basis for comparison, is both logical and something I appreciate.
  31. do this with rx 480
  32. To do this, I must have at least a few RX480. I'm trying this since months, but I got at the end nothing yet.
I will never agree to pay for samples with recommended awards... So I get less samples. :D
The second reason is the stupid sample rotation in Germany. It is mostly not allowed to disassemble a card because they have only a few samples for all media, especially for AMD cards. :(

For Vega I have other plans and made a deal with a shop. I hope to get more AMD cards by this way, also and especially for disassembling and this deal is very easy and clear: I have to check for the guys a handful of cards to select the best pieces and I will get at least one sample to butcher it for the review. The same selection game with CPUs. Sounds fair. :)

As I wrote above: this roundup will be completed and updated step by step. I have more 1070's here to test it and we will add new cards soon. But I have only one head, two hands and a limited amount of manpower :)
  33. A round up of a tiny sliver of cards? Come on Toms.

Where does EVGA fit in? If you couldn't get enough cards for a roundup, just re-title this a TH Reviews 4 random 1070s.
  34. Read the post above :)
  35. FormatC...I wouldn't respond to these nitpickers about what constitutes a "roundup" You guys had 4 cards available at the time of writing said article and maybe you could have titled it something other than a "roundup" but there are people whom will complain at every little nuance. I stopped long ago giving them responses. Cuts down on negativity.
  36. The background:
I made this in Germany as a BIG and ENDLESS roundup with now 13 cards in it! Endless means: I will add each new card to this roundup and it will be more and more, because the review is updated from time to time (in Germany since August 2016)

For the US site the guys splitted it into 1080 and 1070 to make it as two roundups and more clear (too much content for one review), but we had in the time of translation nine 1080 and only four 1070. This is the reason why they started in US with only four cards. But this month I can deliver two more 1070's and I'm sure, that the translator will be faster. After this we have six cards in this roundup and after two months eight. Due the long and in-depth testing of each card I need a lot of time for this tests and I also need samples to disassemble it. Asus is on the way, so don't worry :)

I will remember this nitpickers later what they wrote, if the roundup is a little bit matured ;) But we decided to bring not each card as a single review, because such an (continously updated) overview is more worth than a bunch of single reviews.

    And about the word "roundup":
I never read any negative response on reviews with up to four PC cases, PSUs or other stuff, also called roundup. I have no idea what the people are waiting for. This site is free for all, they have nothing to pay but all time of the world to consume our output (and to write their complaints in our forum). I see such things as what they are :D

    true.
  38. For all guys with problems to read my last post:
The Gigabyte G1 Gaming is also waiting in the pipeline. But at the end I can't split me to do all things at the same time :)

Thanks for your testing, and for letting us know what to expect.

I agree with Redman - don't worry about the complaints. If the worst they have to say about your work is that they want more of it, then that's really not such a bad complaint!
  40. Sure, also an interesting point of view :)
