Dell Monitor Flashing on and Off, Help!

Hello everyone!
I have a Dell monitor. I can get the model # later. It looks something like this:

The Issue is:
The monitor keeps flashing on and off, the light on the power button, that is, and doesn't display anything! While reading a couple of other threads, somebody mentioned trying without the VGA cable, just the power, so I will do that soon when I get the chance. I don't know though. I got this monitor for about $2 at some garage sale, in pretty good shape. If it breaks, eh.
I am absolutely stumped as to what is wrong with it.

are you a bit good in electronic at the price you pay look inside could be a loose connector where the power plug goes in .

more then likely a domed capacitor on the power board in the monitor. had that problem with my Samsung 19" just before I made it into a Frankenstein monitor. replaced the domed capacitor & screen lite up ok.

UPDATE:
I got it to work!! This was actually easier than I thought... (for now!)
I just unplugged the VGA cable from the monitor and computer, and plugged it in with JUST the power, then once it booted up, I plugged the VGA back into it and the computer!

you have the model of the monitor so get the manual it could be only a matter of input settings .
