As the title suggests my cmd prompts don't work but it isn't an easy fix. I just built my computer and I'm installing windows 10 on it. I accidentally bought an external hard drive that uses USB. So I quickly went to the internet to find a solution. I found a series of commands to use to make the computer think the USB is sata. Only the commands aren't working for instance if I use the command "list disk" the computer says "'list disk' is not recognized as an internal or external operable program or batch file" please help. My operating system isn't installed yet so I can't do anything yet.

Solution
You have to type diskpart first then it'll know what youre talking about.

list disk is part of the diskpart command.

And whatever youre trying to do unless there's some kind of adapter in this, I dont think it's going to work

I know that but I forgot to mention I used list disk earlier to change how it read one disk earlier on the same rig
