Monitor making high pitched noise when off

I got a monitor for Christmas - Samsung T24D391. I noticed that when it's off it makes a high pitched noise that doesn't stop. I tried unplugging the power cable and plugging it back but that didn't help. Is it normal for a monitor to do this noise or did I connect it incorrectly?

I'm guessing it's something to do with the power inversion circuit in the monitor. Does it do it with absolutely nothing connected to it other than the power cord? Does it do the same thing on another power outlet in the house (different circuit)? If so, I'd say you need to return the monitor for an exchange.

I tried unplugging everything except the power cable and connecting it to a different power outlet but I still hear the same noise. First I can hear nothing but then the high pitched noise starts and slowly gets louder. So you say I should exchange the monitor?

yes on warranty replacement as it should not do that.
