Approximate Purchase Date: ASAP

Budget Range up to $2500 all in, but spending all that money is only necessary if the performance is worth it.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Video Editing, Twitch Streaming, Surfing,

Are you buying a monitor: Yes, but I am confused to what I actually need/want

Parts to Upgrade: The whole thing, it's a complete new system

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: No preference but NCIX is two blocks away

Location: Vancouver Canada

Parts Preferences: Intel CPU of course , the rest I am open to suggestions.
Overclocking: Yes, but a stable middle of the road clock, I don't need to set a clock record

SLI or Crossfire: Doubtful

Your Monitor Resolution: Not sure, but a monitor in the 24-27" range

Additional Comments: I want to play the latest games with great FPS and detail, it's been too long and games are so beautiful these days
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: My old rig from the stone ages has crapped out

This is my initial take on the build with a few things missing as I need some help. Mushkin ram was the rage way back in the day, so I put it in as default RAM.

By all means, feel free to suggest other products. I need a case, vid card and monitor as well. I am a bit overwhelmed by all the info and lingo, it feels like the more I research, the more confused I get.

Thanks everyone, look forward to reading some replies and getting this new rig up and running

Apologies for the formatting, for some reason I couldn't make it look as nice as many of the other requests.

Think this ought to get you everything you want, while still coming in a little under budget. There's room to play a bit with a higher-end motherboard, faster RAM, a different brand or model of video card, different case, or even a 1440p monitor or liquid cooler if you really want to, but if you're moving up from a fossil rig then I think you'll be pleased with this.

A 1080p monitor with a GTX 1080? Um...

And I'd avoid any FTW or SC ACX EVGA 10 series GPU's. The VRM's are bursting into flames.. http://wccftech.com/nvidia-gtx-1080-1070-evga-cards-dying/

What resolution do you want to game at FenwayPark? Does 4k gaming matter to you?

I'd get a better cooler than the 212 Evo if overclocking is planned.

I'd recommend waiting for Kaby Lake, which is said to be the same price as Skylake, and about to hit the shelves. Even waiting to see what AMD Ryzen come out with could be an option. May have to wait a few months for that though.

It's not a 1080, it's a 1070. And the overheating issue has been fixed with a firmware update and additional thermal pads. Currently shipping cards do not have this problem.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the responses.

I think I need to go with 1440p monitor for now, down the road, probably a 4k, but its' just not in the budget now.

I need a power supply as well.

Plan to do a mid range overclock, not looking to break the sound barrier, but definitely want to push the machine abit

Yeah a 1070 is a 1440p card (my bad reading GTX 1080).

The build above is very good except for the monitor and cooler, plus I might get 3000MHz+ RAM.

I wouldn't trust EVGA 10 series cards with ACX period. I realise they tried to fix it with thermal pads and fan curves etc but I wouldn't trust their VRM's an inch.

Can you recommend a monitor and better Ram?

Also, I do want to overclock, I am just not looking to push my chips to the absolute limit

Nice build. Any reason why I don't need a 1080 card?
Can you suggest Power Supply?

Well, here's a last stab at it. I dropped the Hyper 212 Evo for your original Noctua cooler, swapped out the EVGA card for a Gigabyte Windforce model, upped the monitor to a 1440p 27-incher, and traded the memory up to DDR4-3000. It came out a few bucks over budget, but you could fix that by going back to the DDR4-2400, or Multipack can probably help you tweak it further.

The cheapest GTX 1080 I could find is going for about $800 Canadian, so you'd have to make some pretty serious cuts elsewhere to fit it into your budget without losing the 1440p monitor, though I'm sure it could be done.

Good night, all.

Is it worth it for me to wait for Kaby Lake? Apparently there was a competition to O/C them and allegedly it was a huge success.

I really want to buy a computer sooner rather than later and the cash is burning a hole in my pocket, but maybe i am better off waiting for the new architecture?

Yes they are definitely more overclockable. The best info out there is right on this site, and this article (and the ones linked in it) are very informative http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/intel-kaby-lake-core-i7-7700k-i7-7700-i5-7600k-i5-7600,review-33752.html

Kaby Lake is literally days away, so you may be better off enjoying researching until they release so you can at least make a decision. Worst thing would be to get a Skylake and then regret it. There wont be a huge difference - it's just a Skylake refresh - and they will be compatible with each other as they both use the LGA 1151 socket, so upgrading in future would be a possibility too.

Thanks mate,

I think I do want to research a little bit more and just wait since it's not far off.

Will give me more time to research Monitors as well, which seems to be something I don't quite have a grasp on.

I've read enough threads to know (based on current tech) what many of the popular choices are for cpu, ram, etc etc, but there are still a couple of area's where a bit more time and reading is probably necessary.

I appreciate everyone's help
