Hi,

"Entertainment" seemed to be the most appropriate category forum to pose this question under.

I try to not to stream/download movies, music, and TV shows without paying for them.

I've been reading around and in particular Youtube's Fair Use policy.

Something that I am perplexed on is "non-profit education purposes." I understand that generally speaking it means education institutions use copyrighted content as a tool to teach.

However if I am watching a documentary on youtube or some streaming site, and such a documentary is on a subject that I want to know more and think about - shouldn't that count as a "non-profit education purpose"?

so, what you're saying is.. you'd like to watch every holly wood movie ever made online for free in that you think you have an educational interest in going to film school some day?

Interesting point - that scenario does illuminate things for me.

youtube does have a little educational post about the definitions and scenarios... and from what i remember the educational bit means they can use like snippits of copyrighted material, not the entire work
