My monitor won't work with my new pc please help!

I just bought a new pc and it doesn't have any ports for my monitor which is vga it only had dvi d so I bought an adapter and tried it out still nothing on the screen but it works on my older pc please help I need this to work

An adapter does not work for DVI-D to VGA. You need an active converter
