I am aware this question is asked multiple times for gaming. However, I am asking for multiple purposes. I am not a competitive regular gamer; I only play World of Warcraft regularly. I have new rig with 1080 graphics.

I am debating between 4k 60hz vs 1440p 144hz monitors for
1. Regular Reading & Surfing
2. Good Movies Experience
3. Gaming (Not heavily though)

I understand 144hz is good for gaming but I was wondering which monitor would serve my overall purpose rather than one particular one.

I am thinking of
144 Hz: Asus MG279Q ($550)
4K: LG 34UM64-P or ASUS PB298Q (~$360-390)

Thanks

The MG279Q is Freesync Monitor .. you have a G-Sync card

I'd say 1440p, IPS, 165Hz but those are $700+ monitors

Acer XB271HU is my fav, followed by Asus PG279Q

I wouldn't invest in 4k until they have Display Port 1.4 w/ extremes that can take advantage of DPs 1.4 bandwidth.

Where are you getting Asus PG279Q for $550? I'll take 3!

That aside, if all you're doing is playing WoW casually I'd say there is no reason for you to have a super high refresh rate on your monitor. I would go 4k and save the money if it were me.

I understand but I am not looking for Sync Feature at the moment. I would love to get G-Sync Feature but that's getting out of budget.

1. Regular Reading & Surfing
I'll admit that I've never experience a 144 Hz display, but I can't imagine it being beneficial for normal desktop/browsing use. 4K will make text more crisp and should improve all around readability and image quality.
2. Good Movies Experience
Again, no benefit from 144 hz. 4K won't make a difference either though unless you're actually watching 4K content. That being said, 1080p should scale to a 4K monitor nicer than a 1440p monitor, because 4k is exactly 2x 1080p in each dimension.
3. Gaming (Not heavily though)
Can't really say much due to not having tried 144 Hz. All I can say is that it depends a lot on what kind of games you play, how fast moving they are, and how important response time is. From what I hear, 144 Hz is more beneficial when you're playing competitively.
