Hi,

Both my Samsung EVO 840 120GB and 500GB suddenly report very low IOPs, causing a big performance hit of my laptop (works very laggy).

Any idea of what happens here? This is the third time in 4 months. . .

A recurring EVENT 225 seems to happen everytime this problem arises, for example:

The application \Device\HarddiskVolume4\Program Files (x86)\Google\Drive\googledrivesync.exe with process id 6908 stopped the removal or ejection for the device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C03&SUBSYS_06551558&REV_05\3&11583659&0&FA.

Thanks for reading, greets

Thanks for answering. Samsung Magician reports Good Health. I installed the latest AHCI drivers, Intel RST.

Btw, after restarting, my event viewer is filled with 225 events, regarding processes stopping the removal or ejection for my harddisks . . .?

It is possible and would explain why all of a sudden your iops drop. M.2 drives and their placement on system boards have been notorious for overheating. This is why on the new 270 chipset boards, you see manufacturers starting to put thermal pad cases on them.

Thing is though, why would my other 840 EVO 500GB ssd ALSO report low IOPs. . .? Its temps are fine.

Could my motherboard be the culprit?

I did a quick search on the support website and didn't find a bios or driver update for your particular issue. Id suggest opening a support case with Sager:

I have removed the official Intel RST 14.8.0.1042 driver, afterwhich SSD speeds were restored to normal.
I then installed the latest modded Fernando RST drivers for Intel 8/C220 chipset (13.6.3.1001) and speeds have never been better.

I have no idea why the problem occured in the first place (I did not have RST installed when the problem first occured), and why installing Fernando's RST drivers give even better speeds than without RST (for now).

Thanks for the help so far!

Fernando RST drivers:

I also disabled Link Power Management and activated the High Performance power plan (through gpedit.msc because after every restart in changed back to the balanced power plan). So far so good. . .
