I would love to know the EXACT step-by-step instructions on how to set up a Playstation 3 offline LAN. According to Sony, it can't be done, but that makes no sense to me.
I'm looking to make a game room in our small ski/snowboard cabin. No internet, but I figure 2-4 PS3s and TVs and maybe Dead Island or Diablo III should be a good time.
Again, if someone can tell me exactly what to do I would appreciate it very much.

Or from another forum:

you have to use a crossover networking cable. a regular cable will not work to connect two ps3s together(to use regular ethernet cable you have to go through a router or hub).
1st ps3
1. settings
2 network settings
3 connection settings
4 setup manually
5 wired connection
6 enter ip manually
7 use 1.1.1.0 for ip
255.255.255.0 for subnet
2.2.2.4 for dsn
1.1.1.1 for gateway ip
8 use auto settings for remainder of the options
9 enter and test connection settings

2nd ps3 repeat steps 1-6
1.1.1.1 ip adress
255.255.255.0 subnet
2.2.2.4 dsn
1.1.1.0 gateway...

OP here,
Is it possible that the games I tried weren't LAN compatible? We mostly wanted to do a co-op Resident Evil 5 campaign on 2 TVs. Maybe RE5 requires an internet connection? We used the router and got the IP address and whatnot. I didn't know if there were any additional network settings to fiddle with or if at this point I just need to find the right games.
