So I can open everything normally everything runs find except that my computer background (seems) unresponsive? I can't click and hold an area and I don't see my desktop icons anymore. I can change background and access all my folders.

Here are my specs in case they are relevant.

Solution
does the right click menu work?

I assume you haven't just hidden desktop icons?
right click desktop and choose view, is there a tick next to show desktop icons?
if there is, perhaps untick it and then turn it back on again and see if that helps.

If you have it set to hide icons, then left clicking desktop does nothing.
Left click doesn't do anything on my desktop unless i show icons and then it lets me create a shape on desktop that selects multiple icons at once
