Hello,

I am in the market for a new display. It will be for 1080p@60 gaming on PC and I will also be using it for a PS4. I want it primarily for FPS games, like Battlefield 1, on the PS4.

I would like a larger screen, like a 27", but I hear and read about 27" on 1080p not being too great of a picture, like it is looking through a screen door...which I believe to be a bit of an exaggeration. I am definitely open for screen size suggestions, though. I would like an IPS monitor, as well.

If anyone can help me out, I would surely appreciate it.

Thank you in advance for all suggestions, advice and help.

Budget? I would never buy a 27inch 1080p monitor for gaming personally, pixel density would be quite low. It wont be like looking through a screen door but it wont look as crisp as say a 20-24inch monitor at 1080p. A 27in monitor at a 1920x1080 resolution has a PPI (pixels per inch) of 81, a 24in 1920x1080 monitor has a PPI of 91. Most people prefer a PPI of at least 90.

Thank you for your reply!

My budget is $250 USD, max, but anything under that is surely welcome. I am definitely open to screen size suggestions. I just saw a friend playing on a 27", and yeah the text was a bit fuzzy, but the game looked really nice.

Oh, I think it will be primarily PS4 gaming, if that helps. I pretty much play multiplayer games with family and friends, but since I am the only one with a PC and they all have PS4s, I tend to play the console a lot more.

Both of these are pretty good for budget IPS panels. Response times aren't bad for an IPS. Either would work fine, I would personally recommend the 24in I think it will look a bit better and its cheaper, up to you.

Thank you for replying!

27" is not an absolute must. I have been doing some research and I do know the difference between the "ms" response time (time it takes to change pixels) and input lag (time it takes from controller/KB&M to what you see on your display). I have been looking at these monitors:

HP 27es (7ms response, <2.5ms input lag - glossy and flicker free)

AOC i2757fh (5ms response, <5ms input lag)

ASUS MX29h (5ms response, <9ms input lag)

Dell S2415H (7ms response, <5ms input lag - glossy, flicker free, but only 1 HDMI and 1 VGA)

These are all AH-IPS monitors and seem pretty nice. The "problem" with the AOC and the ASUS that I have read is that they are 3+ years old and the price is too high for what they are.

I don't know...I didn't know that it would be this hard trying to pick a monitor. I really jump into the rabbit hole when I started researching lol.

Its hard to pick a monitor, the market is saturated with them, lots of choices which is not always a good thing. My recommendations come from buyers guides done by people who have already done the research. Take manufacturers claims of response times and input lag with a grain of salt, tests show that they are often way off or provide results that are only accurate in the perfect scenario.

https://displaylag.com/display-database/ Is a good place to get accurate info on input lag and response times.

Here are a couple buyers guides: http://www.144hzmonitors.com/best-gaming-monitor/

Thanks!

Yeah, that is very true.

Those numbers that I posted are from wecravegamestoo.com, tftcentral, displaylag.com and pcmonitors.info. The ones I posted I can pick up today at my local Best Buy. The in-depth review, and one of the only ones I can find, on the HP 27es makes it sound very good, if not one of the best for glossy screens, input lag and color. Do you know anything about that one?

Do you happen to know anything about the ASUS PB23Q? I have this monitor and I use it for a work monitor. Do you think that this monitor will be any good for gaming?
