What did I do wrong here? (SSD Horror Story)

Yesterday I decided to install my Windows 8.1 onto my new SSD.

After booting to windows, I made sure everything was in order then wiped my old HDD to use as storage.

Until something wasn't working.

msvcp100.dll is missing.

That error message that makes me shudder whenever I think about it.

I tried to load up my admin software for my Rust Game Server.

msvcp100.dll is missing
msvcp100.dll is missing
msvcp100.dll is missing

I looked online for solutions, feverish, on an empty stomach.

"You're missing the Vision C++ Redistributible!"

"Just download the dll from the internet!"

"Update windows!"

I noticed I had no C++ or .net drivers installed and installing them from the internet had prerequisites...

I needed some important windows updates.

I thought, OK, I'll just update my windows!

Nope.

Failed to find any updates, and when I DID find updates they didn't load.

8 hours later, I decided to reinstall windows and try again.

Didn't work.

So, at 1:30 in the morning, I gave up.

I'm going to be getting Windows 10, because trying to get updates for win8 is too hard.

(Do you all think windows 10 will fix this issue?)

And was the issue with updates and the missing msvcp100.dll my fault?

That's not what it sounded like.
And you did this install with only the SSD connected?
And verified it booted up properly after?

Yes. The issue was that windows 8.1 would not update after fresh install

download a new iso, don't use a old windows 8 form a old cd

download the latest one, use the official windows tool

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO

there, select the version of the license, home or professional and download

you can use rufus or any other tool to create a usb bootable device, install from it and then remember to install visual c++ in both 32 and 64 bit versions

Solution

I've already ordered Windows 10, just going to use that instead. But, thanks for the help anyway!

with the new windows, do the same, download the newest iso from this link

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO

after you finish installing, inser the key you bought, the usb or disc you boughtsurely is from las year, the iso will be newer taking less time applying updates

after that, remember to install visual c in both 32 and 64 bit versions

the tool will ask you if you want a usb or a iso, with the iso you can do later a usb, with the usb, you basically need to download the file again, i do like more to have the iso for later use
