I'm looking at picking up an ultrawide monitor for gaming/watching TV/movies with the wife. I play mainly fps with some MMO/RPG tossed in

My question is are there any that are good but won't cost me 1200+? Like the Asus and Acer do, I know they are the best but the price leaves me in the cold.
If they are the only two worth getting for gaming then I'll have to figure out explaining it to my wife but I'm hoping you guys can point me in the direction of something a little cheaper.

What size monitor and resolution/aspect ratio do you prefer (i.e: 1080p, 1440p, 4k)? And do you want a curved screen? These variables are what determine if your monitor will cost anywhere from $400 or $1,000+++

Would like 1440p at least I do not see the point in getting an ultra wide at 1080p any more

Would also like at least 30 to 34 inch one.
As for curved or not I'm guessing curved for better immersion in games

I should also mention in running an i56600k with a1070 fe

I figured on the 1080p portion, but just wanted to make sure.

Your specs should be just fine for 1440p gaming, so you won't need to worry about that. It'll come down to these two monitors, both of which are under $1,000 (before shipping and taxes, if applicable). One primarily for a budget while the other is for refresh rate:

Dell Ultrasharp 34" 60hz 3440x1440 Curved Monitor

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PXYRMPE/

LG 34UC88-B 34" 100hz 3440x1440 Curved Monitor (if shipping is too long for you, choose the version with thunderbolt)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B9IDL4I/

I'm using Amazon for the retailer because they have both at the cheapest. You can find them on a vendor you prefer, if you don't like Amazon.

Would there be any reason to pick one over the other? It will be used primarily for gaming and from what I've read so far, the Dell has blb but next day replacement and a 5ms, where as the LG has been pretty good out of the box.

Is there anymore pros or cons about the two I should know about?

Here's a gotcha (one that I didn't really see until now): The LG can reportedly achieve 100Hz IF you have an AMD graphics card due to FreeSync technology. Since you have a 1070, there really is no advantage (and honestly, dont switch graphics cards if you don't have to - the 1070 outperforms the RX480).

Yet, I've seen people say that you don't need to utilize freesync and get 75hz. Note that it's only apparent IF you have the model WITHOUT the thunderbolt ports.

I personally like LG monitors due to styling and panels. I haven't really seen any problems with Dell monitors (could be my luck, though) either.

Both have the same GTG response time of 5ms, which is honestly just fine for gaming especially on a higher resolution. It's preferred to have <4ms, but I've played FPS games with no issues on 5ms.

Lastly, the LG monitor is on sale AND Amazon has it in stock. No need to wait 2 months for shipping lol.

Well according to when I looked Amazon only has the thunderbolt port one in stock, might have to look elsewhere.

LG is looking very tempting due to the fact if I do upgrade to amd new line I'll be able to get 100hrtz out of it. I'll have to dig around and see if anyone has it online to buy

I might have posted an incorrect link to the LG monitor. It should be this one

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B9IDL4I/?tag=pcpapi-20&th=1

They're the same model, but I think this one has an available vendor... maybe?
