Good morning all, I've been a long time lurker and I just registered to ask this question. I just recently acquired a MSI gaming X 6GB GTX 1060 card and then my 11 year old Hanns G LCD monitor finally crapped out. Therefore, I am in need of a replacement, and I am sure that any of these monitors would be a good upgrade from my extremely old one that has been so reliable.

I will admit, I am not that knowledgeable about monitors, but from what I can tell through the little bit of research I have done, I want to go with a TN panel because the IPS panels have higher response times (5ms vs 1ms). I am aware that this matters mostly in shooters. I plan to use this monitor to connect my PC as well as my Xbox One. I play mostly World of Warcraft on PC and the occasional AAA titles I can pickup for cheaper than on xbox through things like steam sales (ex: Deus Ex, Hitman, etc.) I have transitioned to playing most shooters on my Xbox One (CoD games, Battlefield games, and Rainbow Six Siege). The majority of my time is definitely spent on World of Warcraft for PC and the Xbox One.

I have narrowed it down to these two main options, and I also found a third one in a different price bracket that I can get a good deal on buying it used.

Two Main options (honestly lost as to which to get):
Asus VG245H - https://www.amazon.com/24-inch-FreeSync-Monitor-VG245H-Response/dp/B01JGYM5H6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486132565&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+vg245h

Asus VX248H - https://www.amazon.com/Asus-VX248H-24-Inch-1920x1080-Monitor/dp/B00GMGHCVG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486132572&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+vx248h

I am really not sure which option I should go for here since they are both at $169.

The third alternative option I was looking into was:
Asus VG248QE - https://www.amazon.com/VG248QE-1920x1080-144Hz-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486132582&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+vg248qe

This one is in a completely different price bracket, and I found a deal where I can get it used for around $150, but I'm kind of skeptical about that. Also, I dont know if I really need the 144hz since I only really PC game World of Warcraft anymore and play most other games on Xbox One. If someone could recommend a choice between the VG245H and VX248H and tell me whether purchasing a VG248QE would even be worth it for me then that would be great.

Also, if I missed out on anything or am misinformed about IPS then feel free to recommend other alternatives or even other TN Panel alternatives.

Thanks a lot for the help in advance!

Asus VG245H: It offers FreeSync (40hz to 75hz), VESA mountable and the stand provides height, tilt, pivot and rotation adjustment. Panel quality is average for a TN panel. Lag is what you would expect (the review is comparing a 75hz to 144hz monitors). Stock settings aren't very good for color accuracy (Delta-E 7.24). It needs to be calibrated. Once calibrated it does quite well (Delta-E 0.85). A color gamut, Adobe sRGB, of 92.1% is good for a TN panel but nothing remarkable.

Asus VX248H: Standard feature set. No VESA support, tilt only stand and no FreeSync. No professional reviews I could find. Meaning they probably didn't think it was good...

Asus VG248QE: Different class of monitor. 144hz, VESA support, stand supports height, tilt, pivot and swivel adjustments, no FreeSync/GSync. Out of the box color accuracy is average (Delta-E 4.91) but is quite good once calibrated (Delta-E 1.30). Overall the VG248QE and VG245h will provide similar color range and accuracy once calibrated. The color gamut of Adobe sRGB 93.1% is nothing remarkable, it is good for a TN panel. The advantage of the VG248QE is being 144hz. It has a much lower pixel response and absolute input lag. Meaning it will have less ghosting when gaming.

Ignore many of the comparisons in the reviews. They aren't fair comparisons. The ASUS VG245H review is pitting it against 144hz monitors and the VG248QE review is pitting a TN Panel against higher resolution IPS panels.

Of those three, I would go with the VG248QE. Unlike a video card a monitor is usually a longer-term investment. While I would only expect two to three good years out of a GPU. I'd expect six to eight years out of a monitor. The monitor is what you will be looking at every day. It's what will bring your games, movies and pictures to life. A better monitor will enrich the experience. So, this is a component I splurge on.

Between the cheap ones. The VG245h has better features. Plus, it has a respectable review. For a cheap TN panel.
